Laker for a Day


UCLA Health finds a champion for the Lakers championship run.

As a Laker championship run looked more and more likely in the pandemic-shortened NBA 2020 season I sprung into action with the teams at CULT and Sarofsky to produce a spot that would run exclusively during Lakers games for UCLA Health.

Smarter Creative meant smooth collaboration between a team of five different writers thousands of miles apart. We shared scripts and storyboards across virtual whiteboards and turned around multiple concepts in less than 36 hours. 

At the end of our creative process the charisma and charm of young cancer survivor, Nigel Terry proved irresistible. We leveraged existing footage, wrote new voice over, and added new music and graphic treatments.

In less than one week we had delivered 15 and 30 second TV spots that would run for the duration of the Lakers’ playoff run. Smarter creative for the win.
